Overview

Chitwan is a district located in the southern part of Nepal, known for its rich biodiversity and natural beauty. It covers an area of 2,238 square kilometers and is bordered by the Parsa, Makwanpur, and Tanahu districts. The district is mainly inhabited by the Tharu people, who have their own distinct culture, language, and traditions.

The main attraction of Chitwan is the Chitwan National Park, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most popular tourist destinations in Nepal. The park is home to a wide range of flora and fauna, including the Bengal tiger, one-horned rhinoceros, Asian elephant, gharial crocodile, and many species of birds. Visitors to the park can enjoy a variety of activities such as jungle safaris, bird watching, canoeing, and elephant rides.

Apart from the national park, Chitwan also has several other attractions, such as the Balmiki Ashram, which is a popular pilgrimage site for Hindus, and the Devghat, which is a sacred site where the Kali Gandaki and Trishuli rivers meet. The district is also known for its delicious cuisine, which features local specialties such as Dhindo, which is a type of traditional porridge made from cornflour. Overall, Chitwan is a fascinating destination that offers a unique blend of wildlife, culture, and adventure, making it a must-visit destination for any traveler to Nepal.
