Nature
Rara is a beautiful and pristine lake located in the Mugu district of western Nepal. It is the largest and deepest freshwater lake in Nepal, situated at an altitude of 2,990 meters above sea level. The lake is surrounded by lush forests, rolling hills, and snow-capped mountains, making it a popular destination for trekkers and nature lovers. The Rara Lake Trek is a moderate to difficult trek that takes about 10-12 days to complete. The trek passes through remote villages, dense forests, and alpine meadows, providing trekkers with stunning views of the surrounding Himalayan peaks. Along the way, trekkers can also experience the unique culture and lifestyle of the local Thakuri and Magar communities.
Rara National Park, which surrounds the lake, is home to a diverse range of flora and fauna, including rare species such as the red panda and the musk deer. The best time to visit Rara Lake is during the autumn and spring seasons when the weather is clear, and the surrounding hills are covered in wildflowers.
